Project Title: Bioinorganic and Bioorganometallic explorations in drug development
RESEARCH INTERESTS: BioInorganic/BioOrganometallic Chemistry and Its Applications
•My research work entails the design of target-specific metal-based drugs. A series of new metallocene drugs for target specific tumors are developed as tools for treating hormone -dependent and –independent breast cancer. To achieve this, steroidal hormones (estrogen, androgen and progesterone derivatives) are attached as pendant (functional) groups to the corresponding metallocenes. The new species are characterized by IR, Raman, NMR spectroscopy, electrochemistry and X-ray diffraction. The antiproliferative activities of the new species are determined by tissue culture techniques. The mechanistic aspects of these species are studied by spectroscopic methods such as NMR, UV-Vis, Fluorescence and Raman, and Molecular Modeling techniques.
